GEOLOGY

Undergraduates with any major can enroll. This is an introductory
sequence, without prerequisites. No science background is assumed
(other than a normal high school program). The majority of
participants are usually non-science majors, but the course
work also satisfies the prerequisite requirements for majors
courses in geology.
We
especially welcome high school seniors who will be entering
a university in the Fall; Participation from Bowling Green State
University students is encouraged, but course credits can be
transferred to most other universities. Those who are not students
at the Bowling Green State University must apply here for the
Fall session and be accepted; a separate $50 fee is required
for application to BGSU.

Applications
will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. The program
usually includes non-Honors
participants. Recommendations, academic work and interviews (if
possible) will all be considered in evaluating
applications. It is suggested that high school senior applicants
have at least a 3.5 GPA and combined SAT scores of 1250 (recentered). Class size is limited to 24 students.
Students successfully completing the program will receive 16 semester credits
at Bowling Green State University for:
> GEOL 250. Field-based Physical Geology (5)
> GEOL 251. Field-based Historical Geology (5)
> ACS 252. Indigenous Cultures
of North America (3)
>
ENVS 253. Environments in Context (3)
The courses offered in this program satisfy the Ohio Board of Regents General
Education requirement for Natural Science with lab (GEOL) and Social Sciences
(ACS and ENVS) as well as the Cultural Diversity in American and International
Perspectives requirements.
